FOREWORD
The government schools of Telangana are committed to enriching academics and overall
growth of students. The school heads devote their time and energy for bringing out a significant
change in the lives of students. In the present information era, the role of school head is redefined
and has to steer the team of teachers as a leader. The teachers are now trained to take up additional
responsibilities for the maintenance and sustenance of the school, whereas, the school head
supervises the teacher’s work by providing them with resources to complete the task in a given
time frame.Unlike other professions, the school heads do not have supportive services, so the
school head / teacher is expected to be expert at identifying learning difficulties, diagnosing,
treating, innovating and much more. The collective efforts have enabled the school leader to
intricately design the agenda of the school. The agenda of the school is updated with the changing
educational needs in the increasingly competitive world.
This commendable transformation, in the attitudes of school heads and the teachers, was
achieved after the implementation of School Leadership and Development Programme, SLDP,
in state of Telangana. As part of initiative of National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL),
NIEPA, New Delhi, the School Leadership Academy came into existence in December 2018 in
Telangana state, as one of the academic units in the SCERT.The programme continued to be in
operation for the last two years during which the school heads were given rigorous training.
SLDP paved way for school heads to bring about significant changes for building a strong
academic environment in his or her school. It helped in honing of the skills, mitigate challenges,
distributive leadership & planning, prioritization of needs and time management.
It brings me immense happiness upon looking at the transformation of state-run schools.
Many government schools are striving hard to provide quality education to the children. But,
due to time constraint and technical limitations, the SCERT confined to document some schools
in which the most significant change is observed. The SCERT is releasing the book
‘Transformation of Schools into Vibrant Learning Hubs’- a short collection of success stories. I
congratulate the school heads and the teachers for their efficiency in modelling the children
suited to 21 century. I wish the school leaders to continue with same spirit and stand out to be
st
a role model for others.
